01 · The lists

Pick your level,
start reading

Five word lists that follow the JLPT levels: each word in kanji or kana with its reading and an English meaning. The JLPT has published no official lists since 2010, so these follow the widely used sets built from the earlier syllabus and later exams. Pick a level, read the list, then let the widget carry it onto your Lock Screen.

02 · In the app

The same lists,
on your Lock Screen

Lock&Learn Japanese turns each of these lists into a pack for the iPhone Lock Screen widget: a word waits in kanji, the way the test shows it; one tap reveals the reading, the meaning and a real sentence. Read the list here when you want the whole picture; let the widget carry it one word at a time.

01

One word per glance

A word waits in kanji, the way the test shows it; one tap reveals the reading, the meaning and a real sentence.

02

Quiz mode

Three meanings, a fast clock and a streak. Every list here has a free twenty-question practice quiz built the same way.

03

Free to start

JLPT N5 is free. Every other pack opens with a free preview, another word unlocks daily, and Lock&Learn+ opens them all, yearly or for good.

04

Nothing collected

No accounts, no tracking, notifications opt-in. Everything lives on your device.

Asked and
answered

Which JLPT levels do these lists cover?

All five JLPT levels, N5 through N1, each as its own list and its own pack in the app. N5 is free in the app; every other level opens with a free preview and another word unlocks daily.

Where do the word lists come from?

Word lists: the widely used JLPT N5 to N1 sets after Jonathan Waller's tanos.co.uk lists (the JLPT publishes no official lists). Definitions adapted from JMdict by the EDRDG, licensed CC BY-SA 4.0. Example sentences are original Lock&Learn content.

Is Lock&Learn Japanese free?

Yes. The app is free on iOS: JLPT N5 is free, every other pack opens with a free preview, and another word unlocks daily. Lock&Learn+ is an optional upgrade that opens every pack at once, offered as a yearly plan or a one-time lifetime purchase.
